Simple steps to your success!

BELIEVE IN YOURSELF

The biggest thing that stands in the way of people changing for the better is themselves. It’s very easy to feel stuck in the same cycle of not achieving what you set out to do, and all you can remember are the times you ‘failed’, forgetting the multitude of small wins you picked up along the way. This is enough to break anybody’s spirit, especially when it comes to diet and exercise as many of the benefits aren’t easy to see in the short term. The biggest and first step to take is to have faith in yourself. This time round is different and you are going to do it! Try writing down on a Post it note a couple of words reminding you that you believe in yourself and you can do it, or get a partner or friend to write down how much they believe in you. Put this somewhere visible for a constant reminder!

DITCH THE FAD

We’ve all seen the latest trendy diets from the celebrity magazines and how they work wonders for everybody in a short period of time. Granted they may work in the short term, but not a single one of them is a long term solution. The changes you are going to make this time around are hopefully going to change your life forever, but it’s going to be a long process of finding the best way to get the results you want. Have a think about any fad diet you’ve ever tried, and how it made you feel. Did it make you feel good? Why did you stop?

SURROUND YOURSELF WITH PEOPLE THAT CAN HELP

Any journey is always easier with somebody by your side. This journey to a new you isn’t necessarily going to be an easy one, but you can make it ten times easier by having the best support network around you. People will jump at the opportunity to help you, you just need to let the right people in on your journey and you’ll be surprised at how far they can lead you. For a lot of people this can be a tough one, as many of us have friends that won’t want us to change our ways. The scope of this is far too great to go into here, but at the very least you’ll have your number one cheer-leader. Me!

START BY MAKING SMALL CHANGES

The biggest reason that people don’t reach their goals is they bite off more than they can chew to start with. Making changes can be a challenge and, too much at once, can overwhelm even the strongest of people, leading to them throwing in the towel and giving up. Do not underestimate how small these changes should be, quite often they should be almost laughably small to ensure their success! Try writing down a small change you are going to make this week, then next to it write down any action steps you’ll need to take to make this happen. In two weeks’ time, if you’ve successfully made this change, write down the next one you are going to make. Part of my job is to help with this, so please keep me fully in the loop with whatever you’re working on!
