Habits can be our friend or foe, so lets get them on our side!
Our willpower is a limited resource. We only have so much, and it all comes from the same place.
It’s not like we have separate pots of willpower for our job, willpower for our kids, willpower for relationships, willpower for exercise, willpower for diet, etc.
However, we do have this amazing inbuilt ability to remove willpower as the main resource. It’s called habits! Do you ever remember how hard it was to brush your teeth as a child? How hard is it now? You’ve built up the habit with years of practice and now it’s just part of who you are.
The following are examples of Core Habits, that can really help you achieve long term success; and if we can stop relying solely on willpower to complete these tasks daily, long term success is going to be a breeze. some of these will be incredibly difficult, some really easy. One of our jobs will be to find the most effective habits for you and work on making them, well, habitual!
-Spend time outside
-Eat more colourful veg
-Rest and recover
-Eat more protein
-Practice gratitude
-Be mindful
-Drink more water
-Be kind to your future self
Putting a little more time and effort in to any/all of these will drastically improve your health and performance. In fact I’d go so far as to say 90% of all the health improvements you will ever make will come from slowly improving on these really simple and (sometimes, but not always) easy to implement ideas…with the other 10% coming from all the minutiae championed by most fitness gurus and influencers.
Even the content creators with a ton of real life experience and/or a comprehensive relevant academic background get caught out in the content churn-where they are forced to highlight super niche or specialist concepts in order to keep producing fresh, consistent content!
Good health and fitness practices are boring and predictable.
My job is to keep you doing the boring stuff, as it’s the stuff that works!
